We had originally planned a fall camping trip in the Sierra's with my parents. Our trip to Idaho changed those plans. Luckily we were able to meet up with my parents on the way home and squeeze in two nights of camping.
It had snowed a few hours before we arrived. The kids were so excited to be out of the car and they had fun playing in the tiny bit of snow on the ground.
My parents were camping in their trailer and we had rented a yurt to "camp" in. The weather was not at all what we had expected and neither the trailer or our yurt had a place big enough for us all to eat dinner. Luckily the campground had this amazing (heated!) old ski lodge that was open for anyone to use. We ate our dinner in the lodge and spent the evening there staying warm and playing pool.
While we were eating dinner a thunderstorm came through. We were listening to the thunder and watching the lightning while it started snowing. The power went out just as we finished dinner and we started to worry about a night without power (no heat!), but thankfully the power came back on/
As we left the lodge we were surprised how much it had snowed (and it was still coming down). The kids were excited to play in the snow, even if it was only for a few minutes.
We got everything situated in the yurt with lots of blankets and the heater going on high and we went to bed. Colton did not cooperate in the sleep department. After several unsuccessful attempted and getting him to sleep in his pack n play I gave in and pulled him into bed with me. It was a cold night, even with the heater, and I was happy for some extra snuggling (and I didn't have to worry about him staying warm).
The next morning we headed back to the ski lodge where we spent most of our day. Besides the obvious benefit of central heat it was nice to have a place that the kids could run around and play without me worrying about where they were.
The ski lodge, it is small for a ski lodge but it was perfect for us! We were lucky that we had it all to ourselves for the whole day.
The old chairlift behind the ski lodge. We tried to find out about this place when it was a ski resort but we came up empty. I would love to find out more about its history.
It started snowing just as we left the lodge to walk up to the lake.
We had to take a family picture, I think Eva's face captures the excitement for the snow.
I loved spending time with my family in the mountains. I can never get enough of the pine scented air, the granite and the mountain beauty.
The lake was looking a little cold but the kids had fun walking around the edge and throwing rocks in the lake.
After our short outdoor adventure we were more than happy to head back to the lodge to warm up and dry off. My dad got permission to build a fire in the monstrosity of a fireplace and we sat around enjoying snow from inside.
Our last day camping we woke up to beautiful blue skies. Ally got in a little rock climbing and Steve took the kids for a walk around the lake while I packed up.
We were sad to leave, but we were so very tired from all our traveling that it was time to head home.
