2015 in Books

I had a goal to read 52 books in 2015, I thought a book a week would be no problem.  Sadly my reading goal seriously derailed after the fire and I ended up only reading 44/52 books.  I was pretty disappointed but I was happy with getting back to reading (very slowly) in October.  I read some pretty good books this year and here are a few of my favorites.

The Ship of Brides
Ship of Brides by Jo Jo Moyes
Jo Jo Moyes is really popular but this was the first book of hers that I have read.  I loved this unique look at WWII.  I am sucker for historical fiction and it was so intriguing to me that there really were ships of brides sent to reunite with their war time husbands.  All the friendships and drama that come with an entire ship full of young women.

The Year We Were Famous by Carole Estby Dagg
Another book based in history this story of a mother daughter duo who walked across the country for fame and hoped for fortune in 1896.  I couldn't believe that they actually walked from Washington State to New York.  They were so ill prepared, so trusting and such opposites and mother and daughter.

Ranger Confidential by Andrea Lankford
I loved this book but I  disliked the authors negative attitude, she seems to have a chip on her shoulder (or maybe a sense of entitlement) about everything.  That being said I couldn't get enough of the behind the scenes look at our National Parks.  I had no idea the medical side of being a ranger, while the anecdotes are sometimes gory I couldn't stop reading them.

These Is My Words by Nancy E. Turner
I can't believe it took me this long to read These is My Words.  I had heard about this book for years but never got around to reading it, I loved it. Sarah records the adventures (and misadventures) of her life in the Arizona frontier in her diary.

The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
This middle school aged book had such a tender story following a brother and sister who are shipped off from London during WWII to live in the countryside.  They end up living with a woman who was forced to take them.  Heartbreaking at times, this story shows the power of love and kindness.

A Time To Kill by John Grisham
I first read this book about 15 years ago and I loved it, after reading the sequel last year (Sycamore Row) I wanted to read this one again.  It did not disappoint, I think I loved it more the second time.  Great legal thriller with some thought provoking moral questions.

I think you still did awesome on your goal considering all the craziness you had! I'm glad you loved These is My Words. That's one of my favorites. And I've seen that Ship of Brides book and have read other JoJo Moyes books but never made the connection that it was that same author till reading this! I'll have to check that one out. I think I have it added on Goodreads. I'm reading one called Secrets of a Charmed Life and it is set during the Blitz in England and about some kids sent to live in the country. You might like it!
