Storm!

This last weekend we had a major storm come through.  After a very mild and dry January the rain was very needed and it came all at once.  Friday it rained hard and steady all day long, each time I went out to check the rain gauge I was surprised by how much rain we had.
Our rain total just for Friday was 10 2/10".  That is a crazy amount of rain to have in 24 hours.  We had puddles and standing water everywhere.  Saturday we had a break in the storm before the next wave of rain came in on Sunday.  I already forgot what our total was for the entire weekend (that is what happens when you don't write it down) but it was around 14" total.

Steve preferred to check the rain gauge from the comfort of the kitchen using binoculars, and Ally had fun using them as well.

Sunday afternoon and evening were really windy.  Our power went out around 2pm (I wasn't too pleased) so we headed to my parents for dinner.  Without a gas stove our cooking options were pretty limited (unless we got out our camping gear), since we are on a well and without power we can't pump water to the house so it was off to the Ranch.  Thankfully our power came back on around 6pm  and we were able to head back home.  The wind continued to blow most of the night, getting a little scary at times.  A few powerful gusts really shook our house rattling the windows.  Thankfully we didn't have any trees come down at our place, and the power stayed on (though it flickered a few times).

My parents had a huge oak tree come down across their road.   The tree was really massive but the roots had almost totally rotted away.

Lots of fire wood for next year!
We are so very grateful for the the much needed rain, even if it came all at once! We are also very thankful that we didn't have any major damage from the storms.  I love it when it rains and huge storms are fun to watch from the safety of my home.
