Beating the Heat

This heat wave is making me crazy.  There is only so much a person can take!  We have been doing all we can to beat the heat (since we have a non air-conditioned home). We are approaching 7 days of over 100* with about half of them being 110* or more.  Yuck!

It has been so hot we don't even venture outside to play in the sprinklers or pool until the evening.  Popsicles and ice cream are becoming staples in our diet (no complaint from me on that one).  Ally insisted on wearing her rain boots while she jumped in puddles, it was pretty funny.  That silly girl keeps up laughing.

Monday we headed to the Sonoma Coast (after work) with my parents to beat the heat.  I am not usually one for being spontaneous, especially when I have a baby.  But the heat makes me do crazy things, anything for a little relief.  When my mom suggested we head to the coast (an idea I had been toying with) I jumped at the chance.  Once I was home from work I started to second guess myself as we were trying to throw everything we would need in the car but the lure of cool weather was too tempting and made the mad dash of packing worth it.

It was uncharacteristically hot almost the entire way to the beach, thankfully the weather at the coast was a beautiful 64*.  It felt amazing.  We were surprised (but glad) it wasn't more crowded.  Allyson has been asking to go to the beach since January and was excited to finally be able to go.  She was in heaven.

This was Eva's first trip to the beach.  She wasn't as enthusiastic as her sister but she had a good time too.  She wasn't fond of her hat and kept grabbing at it to pull it off.

Eva loves to suck on her thumb.  It started off by sucking her whole hand, then it went to two or three fingers, now she prefers the thumb.

Ally loved splashing in the water and chasing waves with Grandma.  She had so much fun and hardly stopped playing long enough to eat our picnic dinner.

A fun video of them chasing the waves.  The surf was so loud.

As we were packing up to leave Allyson said "this was a good day mommy".  I wholeheartedly agreed, it was the perfect way to escape the heat.  Sadly even though we stayed until sunset the heat greeted us as we headed inland.  It was fun while it lasted.
