Beach Day

We postponed our originally scheduled beach day to enjoy some cool weather at home, the new date we picked was the perfect day to escape the 100+* temperatures at home.  We were more than happy to escape the heat for some beach fun. 

We headed to Doran Beach to set up for our day and wait for Grandma and Papa to meet up with us.  It was a windy day but the wind at Doran was blowing so hard we were getting sandblasted on the beach, chairs and umbrellas were getting blown around.  Not exactly the day at the beach I had envisioned.  Once Grandma and Papa arrived we decided to head up the coast to find a more sheltered beach.  We drove around checking out all different beaches, my mom and I kept wanting to check out different options (probably driving Steve crazy with our indecisiveness). We ended up at Schoolhouse Beach, the very beach Steve had suggested early on in our extended beach hunt.  All the driving around gave Colton time for a much needed nap before our beach fun began./

We had fun looking at the different pieces of seaweed that had washed up on the beach.  I was surprised Eva didn't mind touching the slimy seaweed especially purple seaweed.

The Sonoma Coast is notorious for its dangerous surf making playing in the waves a bit risky.  Luckily the girls had fun just getting their feet wet and running away from all the waves.  Though dangerous the Sonoma Coast has some beautiful waves that are fun to watch.

We were a little sad when we realized the beach we picked didn't have sand, it was more of a pebbly beach.  While we couldn't make sand castles, everyone stayed sand free!

Ally collected so many shells (mainly mussels) and treasures, I love watching her explore nature.

Too soon it was time to pack up and head inland (and back to the heat).  I have a hard time pulling myself away from the magic of the ocean, a beach day always leaves me smiling.
