This year we will celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. It is so crazy how fast time has gone. About a year ago we started talking about making plans and saving for a fun trip for our 10th. After a lot of dreaming we had decided to scale it down a bit and take a fun trip somewhere in California. I had been thinking and researching places around Eureka and Crescent City after our camping trip to Patrick's Point.
As our anniversary got closer we realized even that would be a bit of a stretch now. We are trying to save every extra penny to put toward building our new house. Even though we are in major saving mode we still needed to get away. We used to go away on a small trip each year for our anniversary. Due to work, babies and just life we hadn't been able to have a getaway in 3 years. Obviously it was time.
We eventually settled on just going to Sonoma County, while super close to home it really was perfect. We didn't spend a ton of our time traveling and I felt better being within a hour of the kids in case we needed to come back.
I was a little nervous to leave the kids (I'd never been away from Colton at all, and Eva only twice I think) but the girls were so excited. They both packed their own bags (I then checked them) and kept asking when we were leaving. I am glad they were so excited, it made it a little easier for me to leave. Steve was teasing me a little because it was so hard for me to leave them, as much as I was looking forward to getting a little vacation I knew I would miss them.
The first day we went out to dinner and then caught a movie. It was so nice (and strange) to just do whatever we wanted without having to worry about bed times, or what the kids would eat. So easy!
The next day we headed to the coast (a short 15 minute drive!). We had foggy/misty weather all day but it was still fun. We did a few short hikes around Bodega Head and enjoyed the ocean air.
For lunch we headed to this place I had been wanting to try. Because we were there in the middle of the week there wasn't much of a line, the clam chowder was really delicious. A total no-frills restaurant but fun.
That night we went out to a fancy steak dinner at place my brother recommended. It was fun to try a new place and to be able to just sit and talk.
The next day it was back to reality, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to run errands in Santa Rosa without kids! After some Costco shopping it was back home to the kids. Even though I was hesitant to leave the kids it was so nice to have a little getaway with just Steve and I. Maybe we will have our exotic getaway for our 20th anniversary!

So glad you got to get away, even for a bit. My plans always start big and then get really small :) But I agree, much-needed and totally weird to not have little people controlling your time! Happy Anniversary!!
