Skunk Wars Part II

I have to admit I was just making a joke when I titled the previous post "skunk wars", but now I am serious.  This is war.
We have an infestation and it is out of control.  Thursday night we set the trap with very high hopes.  Steve even saw 3 skunks around the house so we thought for sure we would catch one.  Then as we were going to bed I heard this weird chattering (it kind of sounds like they are fighting but who knows) and scratching under our bedroom. Then came the smell, the awful stench we are far too familiar with. I was upset but went to sleep thinking well at least we are bound to catch one.
Friday morning as I was getting ready for work I heard more of the weird chattering noises and the smell again.  I quickly went out to check the trap, it was EMPTY! What! How did that happen? We knew the skunks were there.  How could they resist the delicious peanut butter? I was furious, I did not want to deal with skunk stench every day.  This was war.  Sadly the score became:

Skunks: 2 Us: 1

We officially declared war Friday night, no more just letting the trap do all the work.  Steve closed off all the exits under the house except one, that one he narrowed so that the trap just fit in the opening. When we came home that night from my parents house I checked the trap, EMPTY.  I did see a skunk right at the entrance of the trap.  Steve a investigated further and he found there was a dirt clod keeping the trap from tripping and two of the crackers were missing.  Frustrating, we would've gotten one for sure.  The trap was reset, and Steve went off to check around the shop.  He found 2 skunks under the shop (I told you we have an infestation!) he was able to dispose of one of them. Then he checked the trap, there was skunk in it.  He took care of that one and we set the trap again.  This morning when we woke up there was another one in the trap.  We are mounting a comeback.  The trap is set again tonight but we aren't sure if there are any left.

I hope you win! When we lived in Livermore a skuck sprayed our dog on the front porch one night. The smell stung our eyes and made us gag. The kids had to sleep in our room for three nights because their rooms were soooooo bad smelling! Good luck.

We get skunks like crazy too, Jeremy loves it. He gets out the old 22 and the games begin. Lol. Good luck skunks are gross and that smell is something we have smelled to much of too.

Wow, you really are infested. I guess that's one of the less desirable parts of living in the country. Good luck...hope you win the war!
