Idaho Road Trip

The day before we left for our trip to Idaho the girls packed their suitcases all by themselves.  I started laughing as soon as I opened up Eva's bag.  I knew they wouldn't get everything they needed on their own but Eva's suitcases just cracked me up.  All this girl needs for a 7 day trip is plenty of panties, one nightgown, two pull ups and about 20 books.
One night on our trip the kids wanted me to read them a book before bed, I told them all the books were in the car.  Eva excitedly said "I have books!", I felt really bad having to tell her she didn't have any, I had taken them all out (to make room for clothes).

A few hours into our long road trip.  These kids were having fun, Colton was only complaining a little.  here they are unwrapping the first of many presents Grandma put together to make the trip more fun.

First pit stop in Reno.  Gas up, eat lunch and find a play ground.  I love this cute play ground I found, lots of fun things to do.

Check out this view.  It was a gorgeous day in Reno looking up into the Sierra's at the beautiful fall colors.  It was hard to leave but we had long road ahead of us.

Sadly my plan of wearing them out on the playground backfired.  Colton was not loving life in the car seat and he was letting everyone know.  He never did fall asleep, he would stop crying for about 20 minutes and the start up again over and over.

Wednesday we stayed the night in Elko, giving Colton (and the rest of us) a much needed break from the car.

Thursday we made it to Idaho and drove all the way to Blackfoot.  Colton did much better today, still no sleeping in the car.  This from the child who falls asleep in the car in the 10 minutes it takes to drive home from the library.

During our stay in Blackfoot Colton needed a nap desperately, he was beyond grumpy.  I loaded my screaming boy up in the car and just drove.  It took about 20 minutes of screaming but poor exhausted Colton finally fell asleep.  I didn't dare stop so I drove around Blackfoot and the surrounding towns exploring.  I loved seeing all the agriculture, driving through a couple thunderstorms and some much needed peace and quite.

Colton and I stayed at a hotel while Steve and the girls joined in a massive 25+ cousin sleepover (all under the age of  9 I think).  I wasn't sure how I was going to manage checking out of the hotel without Steve (he had helped me get all our gear into the hotel) but thankfully this magical little cart solved all my problems.

Beautiful big sky driving I-84 across southern Idaho heading back to Twin Falls from Blackfoot.

Early morning sunrise in Twin Falls.  I can't get over how big the sky is, as much as I miss seeing mountains the expansive sky is beautiful.

On our way back through Nevada Colton finally fell asleep somewhere west of Winnemucca.   It was a small miracle, and one we were all thankful for!

Steve got Ally to play the licence plate game on our road trip.  Whenever we would see a new state she would pull out her paper and add it to her list.  She got lots of spelling practice and learned a little geography!
