4th of July

We got up early (for the girls) to go to the Allred's annual 4th of July breakfast.
Allyson was patient with me in my attempt at patriotic hair, I thought it turned out pretty cute.  She was proud of her star hair do (though I had to re-do it after naps and pre-fireworks).

Eva was less than excited to be up and out of the house before 9am, but she loved the pancakes.  Ally wished she could have had cereal instead (really I think she was just still half asleep).

Ally had fun playing with all the kids.  The main attraction was this old fire truck that the Redford Family drove to the breakfast.

Ally got to join the kids riding the fire truck around the neighborhood.   The ride ended at the Redford's house, Ally didn't want to leave all the fun when I came to pick her up.

It was a fun morning and we headed home for some much needed naps.  That evening the girls and I rode to Calistoga with my parents for the fair and fireworks.  The fair was a lot different this year, only one day, and it was a lot smaller.  Thankfully the shave ice vendor was still there!  We got our shave ice and waited patiently for the show to begin.  Sadly they changed everything around and they had the live band on the field instead of at the grandstands.

The girls waited very patiently for dark (we kept Eva awake with plenty of sugar).  Ally had talked a lot about the fireworks and how they scared her last year (the only year she had been scared of them), she was trying to be brave but was a little nervous.  I was more worried about how Eva would react, I made sure to keep her awake.  The last thing I wanted was the loud fireworks to wake her up and scare her.  Finally the show started and Ally did fine sitting on Grandma's lap.  Eva did pretty well on my lap.  She laughed and clapped at the first few fireworks, then cried for a second, and finally settled in with a serious look on her face for the rest of the show.  I am not sure exactly what she thought about the whole thing, but she wasn't crying and scared so I called it a success.
Steve got to have his own 4th of July fun by getting called to a large wildfire near Lake Berryessa and working on the fire all night.
